Big Stone City School Planning for Preschool Screening in March

Big Stone City School Planning
for Preschool Screening in March
The Big Stone City Public School   will conduct its annual early childhood screening on Friday, March 19,  at the Big Stone City School in the preschool room beginning at 8:15 a.m. Preschool screening is a current requirement for kindergarten entrance.
Children who will be three on or before March 19, 2021, are eligible for screening. The screening’s purpose is to identify health and learning problems or giftedness. Early identification and intervention are the keys to preventing learning and health problems from becoming more serious. Screening is not a prerequisite for preschool entrance.
Teaching staff will complete the DIAL 4 assessment. Children will be observed in the developmental areas of language, motor, and concepts. At the screening, parents will receive the results of the DIAL 4 assessment, see the preschool classroom, and meet the teachers.
If a child has already been screened, rescreening is not necessary, however, parents are welcome to come and register at this time.
Preschool at the Big Stone City School currently has two sections Monday-Thursday. Preschool focuses on school readiness, building strong relationships with peers and adults, the whole language approach to learning, and hands on activities. Students also enjoy small group learning, the incorporation of music and technology in the curriculum, and field trips that extend their learning.
The teaching staff conducts individual developmental assessments each month to monitor progress. The data from the assessment is used to develop specific learning goals for each child. The children work in small groups playing learning games based on their goals.
“The most important aspect that the Big Stone City School promotes is a genuine love for learning,” said a school representative. “The qualified and energetic staff create an experience that is welcoming and the low child-teacher ratio allows for excellent opportunities for learning.”
Appointment letters will be sent out to parents whose children’s names are on the Big Stone City census. Anyone who doesn’t receive a letter or would like more information about Big Stone City Preschool, contact Ruth Trautner at (605) 862-8108 ext. 121.
